Tested: Hands-on with Satechi’s new OntheGo 15W fold-out chargers for iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch

Satechi OntheGo 15W Wireless Charger-hero

Early this year at CES 2025 Satechi unveiled its new OntheGo travel chargers, complete with a fold out design and 15W Qi2 MagSafe charging. The form and function isn’t particularly unique, but Satechi is one of the best in the game when it comes to Apple gear accessories, and now that the new OntheGo is up for purchase to all, we wanted to give them a go for ourselves.

9to5Toys’ Take

I guess for anyone who has looked into this style of fold out travel chargers already, there’s not going to be a ton of surprises here. You’re looking more or less at the same thing we have seen from the Twelve South Butterfly models for years – although it does not make a 3-in-1 model – and something not unlike the Anker UFO model we featured around here a few times now on sale. The real difference here is that these are from Satechi – one of the best Apple gear accessory makers in the business.

Build and aesthetics

The overall build quality is solid here – there’s some decent heft to the package, while remaining quite light and portable. I would perhaps prefer if the whole thing (and every other model I have used from other brands) was a touch heavier to help with stability on the nightstand or tabletop, but the Satechi model gets the job done and just as good or better than the competition.

You’re not going to be pulling your iPhone off the particular strong MagSafe pad one-handed without the entire unit moving, but this is the case with every model I have tested (which is just about all of them).

As far as the aesthetics go here, I like the sort of soft matte finish throughout (it is a metal chassis wrapped in vegan leather) – this goes for the body of the unit and the matching tether between each of the charging pads. Some of the all-metal finished models out there perhaps look a bit more premium, but I can appreciate the Satechi vibes here and the sort of beveled lip around the frame of the charging pads. The embossed Satechi wording on the MagSafe pad is a nice touch that isn’t a particularly garish example of branding too.

As far as the actual functionality goes here, all is well. Everything works just as excepted on the 15W Qi2 pad as well as the 5W AirPods and pop-out magnetic Apple Watch charger.

2-in-1 or 3-in-1?

Well I guess this part is obvious – if you need three charging pads, you’ll need the 3-in-1. The difference between the two is all in the name here, but there is one thing to keep in mind – charging orientations/setups.

With some of the fold out models (the Belkin model comes to mind), the sort origami-style orientation options of the actual charging unit is a little bit more versatile and stable. While you can sort of force the 2-in-1 OntheGo to deliver a heads-up Standby mode like setup, it’s not particularly elegant or stable – the whole thing topples over when I put my Apple Watch Ultra on there with a heavy metal bracelet band.

The 3-in-1 model is a little bit more useable in this sense with more options as far as multi-charging in Standby mode – you can get a heads up view of your phone while charging your watch a bit easier.

That said, if you’re specifically looking for a travel unit like this that can handle this sort of thing, Satechi’s might not be the best option for you. It works, and they can both support Standby mode, but not quite as well as I would like. I do, however, tend to just use these things flat on the nightstand or tabletop anyway, so it works quite well for me.

Satechi’s OntheGo is easily among the prettiest options out there in the category, it works perfectly, and is an easy recommendation for just about anyone who doesn’t absolutely need the most supportive Standby mode setup on a travel charger (it also includes matching USB-C cable and a nice travel pouch too). As far as pricing goes, it’s a bit steep, on par with other “premium” accessory brands, but I might wait for a sale.
